I am an independent contractor and I have been hired recently to work on a hotel in downtown Baltimore.  While I was on the job a few days ago, truck was driving by me when it ran over a piece of metal and it’s tire blew.  I can’t imagine why the sound was so loud, but it was a deafening blast.  My ears hurt for a week and I was afraid that I had gotten tinnitus.  It was a miracle that no one else was hurt, because the truck actually lost control and hit the guardrail.  Thank God no one was hurt.
