With the disintegration of the Mughal Empire the Nawabs of Oudh became powerful and independent. They ruled this part of the province for about a century after the fall of the Mughals. The builder of modem Lucknow, as we see it today, was Asaf-ird-Daula. (1775 to 1797), the fourth Nawab in succession for Direct Flights To Allahabad. He was a great patron of music, dance, poetry, drama and other arts. Hewas succeeded by Sadat Ali Khan, wajid Ali shah, the extravagant pleasure-loving, effeminate indolent and colourful, was the last-Nawab to rule over Lucknow. In 1856 he was deposed and deported to Calcutta by the British.
